Accelerated Reader

This section was updated November 18, 2007.

Renaissance Learning's Accelerated Reader program is available to Kenston Forest School students. Students read books and take reading comprehension quizzes on school computers during school hours. Students use points earned for reading to participate in fun, exciting incentive activities.

We recently upgraded our AR program! We now have access to every Reading Practice quiz available from Accelerated Reader (more than 100,000 titles!). To see if a book has a quiz, search the Renaissance Learning website. We use the Reading Practice quizzes, so look for an RP under the "Quiz Types.

LANYARDS                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                When your child (grades K-7) reaches a designated classroom goal, he or she will earn a lanyard. A star is added to the lanyard insert for every 5 points earned thereafter. Students who earn 200 points will be awarded a special Kenston Forest pin. The PTO has graciously funded this project. The lanyards will remain at school, and we will have "LANYARD DAY" each Wednesday when the children may wear their lanyards all day. They will also wear them to all lower school awards assemblies.

DISPLAYS
We have a bulletin board display in the upper school building across from the library.  Students' names are displayed by grade and point level (10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, etc.). Please stop by and check out all the readers we have at Kenston Forest!

POINT CLUB REWARDS
Each class designs their own prizes and events to reward those students that have achieved preset goals. For a list of these goals and prizes, contact your child's teacher.

TAILGATE PARTY
This lower school event is scheduled for the end of the school year. Students invited to the Tailgate Party must have earned their lanyard or the points required for their lanyard. Activities include a cookout (hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, and dessert) and special entertainment (TBA). We welcome volunteers to help with the cookout and donations of food or drinks. Please let us know if you can help.
