Kenston Forest School is proud to announce a partnership with VCU-Community Memorial Hospital to improve education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) for our students and enhance training for our Science teachers, as well as new programs to provide community health education to residents of Nottoway County.

The school’s partnership with VCU-Community Memorial Hospital will focus on enhancing STEM and STEM Health curriculums in Middle School and Upper School Science classrooms through collaboration on lesson-planning, sharing of STEM educational resources and specialized teaching training.

The faculty and staff at Virginia Commonwealth University are recognized leaders in the field of STEM and STEM Health curriculum development and teacher training, and the staff at VCU-Community Memorial Hospital are dedicated to serving the needs of students and teachers in the vital field of STEM Health studies.

In our relationship with VCU and VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, our school sees an ideal partnership that will benefit our students and the greater community.

Over the next few months, the partnership will pursue grant funding for:

• The creation of teacher resource kits and lesson plans that will improve STEM instruction in our Middle School and Upper School Science classrooms.
• Project-based, hands-on learning experiences for our students, in and out of the classroom, including field trips for our students.
• The creation of a Summer, 2017 teacher training institute for our Science teachers, a three-week intensive curriculum led by VCU faculty and VCU-Community Memorial Hospital health educators that will lead to our teachers earning STEM Health Educator credentials.

Kenston Forest School is proud to support VCU-Community Memorial Hospital’s goal of better serving the community health needs of Nottoway County residents. We will open our campus to VCU-Community Memorial Hospital health educators and staff to provide community health fairs, health education classes, workshops and more. Kenston Forest students will enjoy serving our community and will benefit from the mentorship of VCU-Community Memorial Hospital’s health care experts with a hands-on approach to service learning.
