Members of the VFW joined Kenston Forest’s faculty and staff for their weekly Monday morning meeting to recognize students who participated in the annual Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy Essay Contests. The Patriot’s Pen essay competition is open to students in grades 6-8. Students’ essays were based on the theme “What Freedom Means to Me.” The following students were awarded for their winning essays:

First Place — Gracie Gunn, 6th grade, Second Place — Lauren Szafranski, 6th grade, Third Place — Billy Conti, 6th Grade

Kenston Forest students in grades 9-12 participated in the Voice of Democracy Audio-Essay Competition. Students voiced their hopes for the future by addressing the theme “My Vision for America,” in an original patriotic speech not only written by but also recorded by the individual. The following students were awarded for their winning essays:

First Place –Benjamin Marshall, 12 grade, Second Place — Mary Lizzie Hodges, 11th grade, Third Place — Remy Butts, 10th grade
